Are QCE past papers free?

Yes. The QCAA publishes every external assessment paper and marking guide on its own website as a free PDF, under a Creative Commons licence. Every link on this page goes straight to the QCAA's copy — nothing here is behind a login or a payment.

How far back do the QCE past papers go?

The current QCE system began with the 2020 cohort, so 2020 is the earliest external assessment paper for General subjects. This page indexes 282 papers and marking guides across 6 years, 2020 to 2025.

Should I use older papers if the syllabus has changed?

Carefully. Syllabuses are revised, and some topics move between the external assessment and the internal assessments — Accounting is the clearest recent example. An older question on a topic still in your syllabus is good practice; one on a topic that has moved is a waste of an evening. Check the question against your current syllabus, or use a bank that has already mapped it.

What's the best way to actually use past papers?

Sit them properly rather than reading them. Work under the real timing, mark yourself against the published marking guide criterion by criterion, and log why each mark was lost — not knowing it, misreading the command term and running out of time are three different problems with three different fixes. Then come back to the questions you got wrong, spaced out over days rather than in one sitting.
